Pawtucket Street Dormitories

The Pawtucket Street dormitories are located on the southern shore of the Merrimack River, directly adjacent to the Lowell Riverwalk and LeLacheur Park, home of the Lowell Spinners. This campus improvement project included the renovation of an existing three-dorm complex, and its interior pedestrian circulation and access route to Pawtucket Street. There was a pressing need to enhance the aesthetics, sustainability, and safety of this campus open space. The new design took into consideration the desires of university staff and students. The design made accommodations for Frisbee and football enthusiasts, sunbathers, and the watchers of sunbathers. A notable design solution for this project included retractable custom bollards used to restrict access by unauthorized vehicles.
