Maxfield Library
-Loudon, NH

Loudon, New Hampshire is a small town located just north of Concord. In the center of town at a notable crossroad is the Maxfield library. Adjacent to the library were several war memorials and a flagpole, which were precariously positioned in an inaccessible traffic island. Therefore, it was necessary to resite the memorials in order to achieve accessibility and create a dedicated space for reflection. Another objective of the project was to develop an outdoor classroom immediately adjacent to the children's library wing. Through the skillful selection of native plant material and creative grading, two distinct areas in the landscape were built: a classroom and a memorial plaza with flexibility for overlapping uses.
